Experimental Studies on the Quantification of Deflagration in Rotating Detonation Combustors

Deflagration in rotating detonation combustors (RDCs) is a major loss mechanism that degrades thermodynamic performance and precludes the realization of pressure gain. This manuscript summarizes experimental research at the University of Michigan focused on quantifying deflagration processes in RDCs. Previous works on imaging and reduced-order modeling, recent works related to measuring combustion efficiency, and planned future work with different inlet designs are discussed.
